I have been a little stressed past few days cos some bad person exploited my site and deleted it completely! I don’t understand why people do such things but I’m thankful that my host had been kind to restore this site. As such, I can still continue my posting on eco living and share my stories on this new found passion.

It seems that many brand retailers are riding on the eco bandwagon and started using the word ‘eco’ just on everything. Sad to say, the labeling can end up deceiving many ignorant buyers who don’t even try to read the labels properly. The term ‘eco’ is seen used from household products to food and beverage. It is important to find out why is it ‘eco’ in the first place and how is it contributing to the environment. Hoteliers are also walking this eco living path and I was told that some las vegas hotels are also embarking this trend too. It is rather common to spot eco friendly amenities in the hotel rooms in some of the hotels.

Eco living can start at home and you can do that by avoiding as much chemicals as possible. It may take some efforts but it’s definitely better for your family, your health and the environment.

As a person becomes more involved in the care of the envrionment, the individual tends to become more conscious and aware of what he or she utilizes tfor her living space, including her garden which can affect the environment and the plants being grown. Consequently, many people are turning to organic gardening practices, adding on to their eco living principles.

Organic gardening practices actually have been around and utilized by people since certain ancient tribes gave up hunting and gathering and settled down to grow their own crops and to maintain their own domesticated animals. In their most basic form, organic gardening practices consists of the use of naturally occuring materials (organic materials) in the care and treatment of a garden patch — vegetable or floral. No man made chemicals or any type are utilized in true organic gardening regimens. This supports the philosophy of eco living in a large way. Even for your living spaces, you can turn to organic products or homemade cleaning options. Instead of using chemical sprays on your Kettlebells and exercise equipment, mix a solution of white distilled vinegar and water instead.

When it comes to providing nutrients for an organic gardening, two resources normally are used: compost and manure. Likewise, when it comes to cleaning the house or the issue of pest control, natural steps are taken to tackleoffensive bugs and insects. In this regard, benign insects that do not damage plants but who prey upon bugs that harm foilage are placed in a garden to handle the infestation problem or situation.

Last night, I watched a long 2-hour show on global warming and how this is affecting our eco environment. My concern for the earth grew as I watched and heard what the commentators said about the melting glaciers and diminishing sea life. This is happening so fast and will continue to worsen if we continue to do nothing to protect our earth. But before you look at the big things, how about looking at how you can improve your eco living condition?

Do you know that wrong environment at home can also have a negative force on your health. Home decor is one of the most important factors in creating a good home environment. For instance, carpets give us comfort and warmth feeling. But dust mites love to live in your carpet and the proteins from their droppings can become airborne and affect your skin and respiratory system. If you suffer from asthma or eczema it is better to use hard flooring like wooden floor.

Like wise while purchasing your sofas or chairs select a fabric (like leather) in which dust mites cannot inhabit. Cleaning the room space by regular cleaning and vacuuming the house will avoid breathing trouble related to allergy. Cigarette smoking inside the house could predispose to circumstances like asthma and bronchiolitis in children. So the next time you enjoy your Rocky Patel, make sure the air filter in the house is on too.

Eco living has to start from home and sometimes, taking a few simple steps can affect your family’s health greatly. Caring for the environment starts from caring about our home environment and living spaces. Get started now.

It seems that many people would invest in expensive entertainment equipment for the home. Buying bigger LCD TV screens, getting a Slingbox, get a playstation..etc. All these are great to enhance family bonding but in the midst of your family enjoyment, don’t forget the vital attention to your health by following some of the above eco natural home principles.

It’s that time of the year again. I’m hearing much about travel, holidays and vacations and these days, holiday makers are also talking about eco travel too.

Eco travel is still new to many. For those who are adventurous, camping and trekking are great ways to travel responsibly. Slow travel is another popular option for people to get to know the locals in the country they are visiting. Taking your time and not rushing around. If possible, stay in a bed and breakfast establishment and not the big chain hotels. Eco travel can take you places, from beaches to urban cities, as long as you keep in mind eco principles like using the right transport and embracing your green living principles. That doesn’t mean you can discard your cheap insurance – you still need to ensure that you are well covered, especially in certain remote destinations.

For me, eco travel is a fairly new thing and I am still finding out how to make it possible when doing so as a family. It will require efforts and certain responsible steps to take. But it will be a refreshing experience for both the traveler and the environment.

I was in the bookstore yesterday and spotted a few books on teaching children how to embrace green living. When it comes to eco living, it’s not just about what you do at home, but it’s about taking a look at your lifestyle on a whole.

People are talking about how we can cut down petrol usage and air pollution by driving less. It brought me to mind on how online university can actually become part of eco living. In fact, the idea of studying online is not new anymore. With our busy and demanding lifestyles, people are seeking ways to upgrade and sometimes, it is not possible to attend school physically due to work and family commitments. But online education makes it possible. Besides, with this mode of studying, it is actually eco friendly, as in you don’t need to commute at all. You can now take an online nursing degree or any other discipline and study at home. Online universities such as Western Governors has allowed many to acquire their degrees with distant learning.

Being environmentally friendly can mean a change in our lifestyle and it calls for innovation in our mindsets and the willingness to accept this change. What other ways can you think of to enjoy eco living?

Since the start of this year, I have been attending Pilates classes under private instruction and group classes. I had determined to gain a healthier body for the good of my health. Sometimes, eco living is not just about using environmentally friendly products but it should also encourage a heathier lifestyle that includes exercise and a balanced diet.

If you haven’t done anything for your health and body, it’s still not too late to do so. You can sign up for a Pilates class or grab a Pilates video. Or if you can’t afford the time to hop into a studio, getting hold of some simple exercise equipment is a great way to begin your eco living at home. For weight watchers, they may be familiar with diet pills and supplements but if they aren’t incorporating a healthy diet or regular exercise in their daily routine, their efforts may be futile.

How about the mind? Why not pamper yourself to a relaxing massage or treatment to rejuvenate your senses. If you can’t go for a massage, you can consider a nice bath treatment at the end of a long day. Eco living can begin from home and it doesn’t have to be expensive. All you need is a positive mindset and the readiness to get started.

These days, carrying an eco bag in the shopping mall is more than just an eco advocacy. It has become a fashion statement for some, even the young, trendy and adventurous ones.

What’s nice to know is that eco bags aren’t just popular among women. Fashion and eco bag designers have come out with messenger style bags suitable for all genders and there is no more excuse for men not to use them. Everyone is becoming more conscious with reusing bags or recycling old ones at work, home and play. A friend of mine who are geared for her Myrtle beach golf packages have decided to bring used golf balls instead of buying new ones. Isn’t it great to be eco friendly even on the greens?
$30.00

I must admit that it took me a while to get into the habit of bringing a reusable bag whenever I’m out shopping for groceries or other things. So don’t feel guilty if you haven’t started bringing your own bag when you are out in the mall. It takes some effort and a little time to get into the eco friendly gear. What matters most is an awareness of how we can play a part in the environment we all live in, making it a better place for our future generation.

When it comes to gift giving, the options can be plentiful that it’s hard to narrow down to the right one. As much as I prefer to buy eco friendly gifts, I can’t find the right one at times. I must admit that not all eco gifts are nice looking. Some of them are not properly done and the finish can appear to be some old scraps forcefully put together for green living sake.

$168.00

Some people feel that eco gifts are more costly but it doesn’t have to be so. If you are buying a gift for a lady, consider eco jewelry or an eco bag. If it’s for someone who is passionate about health, consider a wellness gift made of eco friendly materials. For house warming, there are plenty of eco home gifts in the web you can shop around. In challenging times where social security disability is a big concern for some, there are others who prefer to make their own using earth friendly materials. After all, it is the heart that matters in all aspects of gift giving.

There are many simple ways to be environmentally friendly if we take the time to think about it. Even at home or at work, there are things you can do to be kind to mother nature, but it does take some efforts, of course.

Do you recycle the printing paper in your home office? If not, get started now. I often let my son have the unwanted printed paper for his scribbles and doodles. We use them for rough information too. These days, you can get free online backup for your computer data which means you don’t need record them in physical drives and CDs. Rather, it can minimise the use of more hard drives.

What about the laundry water in your house? Can you think about using them to water your garden or washing your patio or your car? Instead of throwing them out, you can use them for other household chores. And if you have some unused clothes that you haven’t been using, why not donate them to someone who needs them?

So you see, there are so many environmentally friendly options around us – all it takes is some easy efforts and a commitment.
