Lead a Thoughtful Eco Living Example

I read in the papers the other day about how the government is encouraging retailers to stop handing out plastic bags to shoppers. While this is a bold move to support eco living, it can be challenging too.

One weekend, I went to pick up a few groceries after a lunch meeting. I was prepared to go grocery shopping so I didn’t have my eco bag with me. It also happened that the supermarket was not handing out plastic bags so it was the Earth’s Week. While it didn’t bother me to grab a few groceries including an appetite suppressant for my aunt in my arms, it annoyed some shoppers, who had no idea that the supermarket was running a campaign like that.

While it was a wonderful thing to promote Earth’s Day or Earth’s Week, the supermarket should be prepared to counter customers who weren’t ready for this eco practice. Having some recycled carton boxes as stand by would calm nervous shoppers who didn’t know what to do with the heaps of groceries they paid for. Perhaps, the supermarket can also sell eco bags at low prices to promote eco friendliness and for those who purchased certain amount of groceries, the bag can be given free of charge.

Supporting eco living is commendable but you need to know that many people are not prepared for such a practice so it is wise to be sensitive to them as well. Don’t go overboard and criticize those who aren’t ready to take the step of environmental friendliness. Just continue to set a living example, for the good of the Mother Earth.
