the stylish and comfy alternative furniture

It’s been a while that I started thinking about creating a home theater area in our house. This was after I saw how comfy one could get with this cool bean bag and alternative furniture piece at LoveSac. Apart from a large screen plasma tv, tv lifts and a quality set of sound system, you need a very nice sofa or furniture to sit on!

What’s nice about having a huge and stylish bean bag is that you can relax in ultimate comforts after a hard day’s work or during the weekends with your mate. It’s nice-looking, stylishly beautiful and delightfully great as an alternative furniture piece in the house.

create your own

Few days ago, I made a New Year e card via Freehand for my family and friends. What I did miss was a hard copy printed card which I used to send but due to many personal reasons, I couldn’t send them this year.

I used to handmake my own greeting cards and enjoyed using rubber stamps to create little designs. These days, it is so easy to get custom rubber stamps online. In other words, you can order your own design and create your own without any hassle. As the economy threatens to affect many people around the world, perhaps it’s time to go back to the basics and learn to create our own.

an eco friendly home christmas

There are many ways to be eco these days. Besides separating your trash, you can make choiced decisions that require less energy in your daily living. A friend of mine just bought a new place and was talking about using wood flooring that is eco friendly and sustainable. Last weekend, I read about a new term that emerge - SCUPPIE - which refers to those who enjoy good living yet opt to stay responsible to the environment.

This Christmas, using less paper plates and disposables can help to do your bit for the earth. Use cutlery that can be washed and reused to cut down waste. Enjoy an eco friendly Christmas.

buy eco friendly gifts this christmas

It’s been a nice break in Singapore since I get to have some personal time this round. I’ve been eating and enjoying the nice treats here that my friends were saying that I might need some diet pills in no time!

Shopping in Singapore is so convenient with the efficient public transport system. It’s one place where I can shop around in a few locations within a day! Plus, there are lots of cool local designers if you wanna go for artisan picks. This Christmas, I’m hoping to shop for some eco friendly gift collection for some close friends. There are so many ways to go eco friendly. Buy eco friendly cards, reusable or recycled shopping bags, avoid wrappers and save some trees! Perhaps, choose toys that don’t require batteries or if possible, hand make them!

fine jewelry by brenda cheah

I had the opportunity to shop with a friend who was searching around for fat burner pills in a store. As usual, I went to my favourite department - the accessories department. One of my favourite jewelry collection in Singapore is by Brenda Inc. Brenda Cheah, a talented and creative designer has a contemporary and stylish way in combining simple gems into an artistic jewelry piece.

Each time I browsed at her collection at the Takashimaya counter in Singapore, I would be tempted to stay a little longer just to try out her unique necklaces. This morning, I couldn’t resisted the markdown jewelry collection that were considered ‘off season’. I suppose I have bought myself a christmas gift and am glad that it is handcrafted by a fine jewelry designer such as brenda herself.

be eco friendly this season

Despite the slow and poor economic reports in and around the media, I see people shopping for this coming Christmas. Well, I personally think that the ones who will get hit most would be the luxury labels but boy, was I wrong! But whether you are shopping for Manolo Blahnik online for any other luxury label offline, you can be sure to expect discounts during this time as retailers try to boost their yearly sales before the close of the year.

Perhaps this is a good time for us to reflect as we play our part to being an eco friendly individual by not buying so much. If you buy, make sure you use it and don’t waste… that’s another way to help save the earth. Be eco friendly this season.

stick to your eco friendly principles

This is a busy season for many households who are gearing up for the Christmas celebrations. You can see lots of glitters in the malls and stores with all kinds of gift ideas and christmas decorations for the busy shoppers. Home makers decorate home lighting and interiors with Christmas colours and gift wrapping counters are often packed with people.

As you accumulate your christmas buys and gifts this season, don’t forget to stay friendly to the earth and stick to your eco friendly principles :)

shopping in hong kong

After being in Hong Kong a few days, it is good to notice that the country is promoting eco friendliness. I was shopping in a local supermarket and I could see posters in the store promoting the use of less plastics. It is good to encourage this practice as this is one way where everyone can do his or her part to save the earth!

I went shopping around town with a spring plungers friend and it was amazing to note the wide variety of designs in the stores. Hong Kong is one place where you can find many great international labels and this is a trendy following country! I haven’t been in the mood to buy too much this trip and I’m taking it easy on my pockets. Then again, I have a few more days here so it’s still too hard to tell :P

kyoto art and culture

After four nights in Kyoto and Osaka area, we are finally back in Tokyo. I have to say that the culture and beauty of kyoto is more beautiful than I perceived. With many Japanese art and designs found in many cultural shops, I have learned to appreciate the lovely details of japanese art, especially so in their fabrics.

From woodwork to food to carpentry including modern bar stools, the japanese take pride in their creation and artwork. I only wish I have more time to visit the local designers and artists museums, spend more time visiting the ancient castles and sights, which are such great delights.

For now, it’s one more night in tokyo for us before heading to hong kong, the place for good food and shopping… I should look out for some cool artisan works in this busy city too.

admiring the japanese art and culture

I haven’t been posting regularly in my blog and that’s becos I’ve been on our family vacation. I’m glad that we can least have enough computer memory this time around so that we can upload our trip photos and do some work in between.

Japan is such a great place to visit if you have time and a little money. We don’t have either but yet, we can glad that we can still enjoy in the best possible ways. I love Japanese culture and heritage and you can see that in the craft stores, the packaging, the signages, architecture and the little touches of the surrounding. Everything reflect the detailed characteristics of the Japanese and it’s beautiful. I can spend a long time in the craft and stationery shops just to admire the nice designs of the Japanese artwork. If only I have more space in my luggage, I would love to buy some fabrics home for future art projects. For now, I can only admire and enjoy the art and designs of the Japanese.
